WALKING IN THE LIGHT

WHAT IS THE IDEA OF WALKING?
It implies movement, going from one thing to the next, continuity. It stands for living. Living in a way that can be described as ‘walking in the Light’.
We must all seek to walk in the light or go on walking in the light.

WHAT IS LIGHT?
Light is beautiful, pure, true, life-giving, clear, etc. It represents what is good, holy and reliable, it reveals and shines.
Light represents  enlightment,  it provides safety.

WALKING IN THE LIGHT
To walk in the light is to share His character- to walk   in righteousness and purity. To walk in the light means that we daily bring our thoughts and actions under the scrutiny of God’s word and respond in obedience to its guiding influence.
Walking in the light means a readiness to walk in obedience to all godly instructions in the word of God. It means a readiness to have the Holy Spirit melt us and mold us into what we ought to be.
Walking in the light means seeking to imitate His lifestyle in all that we do. When we walk in the light, our path becomes illuminated and purposeful.

Light has a way of exposing what darkness tends to conceal. Walking in light is seeing reality for what it is and being controlled by desires that accord to Gods word. It means living under the controlling desire for God instead of the world.
Have you ever walked through a dark room and tripped over something you didn’t see? I have done that before and it is both frustrating and painful.

Think about your life for a moment, how many times have we tripped over something in our lives because we were walking in the dark? Darkness is full of threat, it frustrates your ability to attain your goals but light changes all that. It exposes dangers and frees you from their lurking power. It opens the way,   it is full of hope and promises.
At salvation, we were called out of darkness into light. Every believer is to walk in a new life as directed by the spirit of God. We are to be a separate, holy people to the glory of God. We are to guard our hearts, minds and bodies.
We are commissioned to be different. When we are, sin is exposed, the gospel is magnified and God is glorified.

If we are walking in the light, there will be certain characteristics that will be evident in our lives. It is called the ‘fruit of the spirit’;

WALKING IN THE LIGHT PRODUCES GOODNESS
Goodness can be described as love in action. It refers to  generosity , the act of willingly sacrificing or giving of one self. (1Thessalonians 5:15)
It speaks of godliness in the motives, thoughts and actions. It is the quality of godlikeness. This has to do with our treatment of others; we being good people.

WALKING IN LIGHT PRODUCES RIGHTEOUSNESS
This refers to right standing with God. When He saved us, God declared us righteous. He took away all our guilt and imputed righteousness of Christ to us. Righteousness is seen in our lives when we live out the reality of who we are and what we have been made in Christ Jesus.
One of the greatest dangers in the Christian life is confusing self- righteousness with true righteousness. Self- righteousness is focused on what we do to give the appearance of righteousness; ‘ I go to church every Sunday, I read my bible every day, I pay tithe, therefore I am righteous. All of this is not true righteousness.

True righteousness is born out of our relationship with God, not out of our own religious works. In self- righteousness, people will see you, in true righteousness, people will see God in you.

WALKING IN LIGHT PRODUCES TRUTH
The word ‘truth’ has to with honesty, reliability. When this quality is seen in the life of a believer, it stands in contrast to the hypocritical, deceptive and false ways of the world.
Whenever our name comes up in a conversation, people should associate us with integrity. We should have a reputation for being a man or woman of our words.
These are the evidences or proof of the presence of the life of God in us. When we know Him, we be like Him.

BENEFITS OF WALKING IN THE LIGHT

• We experience the joy and blessings of living a life pleasing to God.
• We enjoy all round victory over the world and kingdom of darkness.
• We have assurance of eternal life and glorious inheritances in Heaven
• God’s name will be glorified because the purpose of sending His son to the world is accomplished.

CONCLUSION
Christians are called not to walk in darkness. We have been rescued from darkness of sin and ignorance, so we can’t afford to go back there.
There are too many of us who are trying to walk in the light yet still stay in the dark. We need to realize that our God is pure and holy, so we have to avoid any appearances of evil.

I want to challenge you to take notes of the dark spots /paths in your life where you are wandering and decide you will no longer walk those paths. We have been called to be in fellowship with God. Our lives should be about what He wants us to do.
So if you are walking in dark, there is a savior and in Him no darkness at all, He wants to light your path and light your life, surrender to Him today and see your life transformed.
