GODLY CHARACTER

COLOSSIANS  3:15-17, EPHESIANS 2:10, EPHESIANS 4:22-24, PHILIPPIANS 2:13

Hi Fam, welcome to my blog. Are you a first timer? I am glad to have you. Are you a regular reader? God bless you for always checking back. Now to the discussion of today – GODLY CHARACTER, is it possible to develop such character and how does it even work?
God does not want us to be weak in
character. Character is not what we have done but rather who we are. Who you are when no one is looking is who you really are. God promises to take who you are and transform you to look more and more like Jesus. But you may ask; how can our inward person be transformed? This is an important question and the Bible has a clear answer [11Corinthians 3:18]. We are transformed from the inside through a personal relationship with God. At the moment of salvation, the spirit of God comes into our lives and goes to work reordering the unseen world of our inner person.

We have to choose to have a godly character and that’s why we need a community of other Christ followers around us. Through accountability and confidentiality, we begin to take off those bad habits and begin to put on the ones who honor God.
I want you to take note that godly character is not built overnight. It is developed and more so a process.  However when i speak of godly character, I am speaking of the process of growing ever closer to God and relying on Him to assist us in our effort to resist and avoid those things that would cause us to stumble.

God wants us to develop godly character- Colossians 3:12-14 and Paul tells us how we can develop the character God desires.

  • ·      We should allow the peace of God control us instead of circumstances – Colossians 3:15

Peace is that inner calmness that is not disturbed by fear but confident trust in God. When we are torn between two conflicting emotions, issues, opinions, instead of allowing frustration, fear or anger, we should allow the peace of God to have the final decisions in what you are about to do.
·

  •   .   We should allow the word of God change us as we meditate on it – Colossians 3:16

The word of God makes you and opens your eyes to know what God desires, how He works and how He guides His people. We should not only read the word but also meditate on it, and more so applying it to our lives.
·

  •       Let the will of God direct your everyday life – Colossians 3:17

God expects godly character from us and I will be sharing with you some of them which are;

  • ·         COMPASSION

God wants us to be caring, to care about people [1Corinthians 13:3]. You can be successful in everything else but if you don’t love/care you have failed.
Being compassionate is protecting the needs of people.
Too often we are just in for ourselves alone, not caring for what other people need or wants.

  • ·         CONSISTENCY

Who you are is more important than what you do. God is looking for people who are not afraid to be different from the culture around them and to stand up for godly standards. People who are consistent in their beliefs and convictions.
It has been said that if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
Is your private life consistent with your public image?

  • ·         COMMITMENT

More people start a race than finish it. They quit because it becomes inconvenient or it requires too much effort.
Luke 9:62. The Christian life takes a lot of commitment, so are you ready?
