WHAT GODLY RELATIONSHIP IS
Hello!
So last week, I started on the series; ' Is godly relationship feasible?' and today we continue. If you have ever doubted if godly relationship was feasible, then you should read on.
When you hear the word godly relationship, what comes to your mind? For me ,it simply means God centered relationship, where godly values is the order of the day. This is my own simple definition to it. This is a relationship where God's will is been done,it's a relationship that pleases God.
You might be wondering, what are godly values and what is the will of God in a relationship and what is expected?
GODLY VALUES IN A RELATIONSHIP
Talking about Patience, self-control, Humility, Faithfulness are the core of a godly relationship.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?
To be in a relationship, you have to understand that giving in to God's will is the priority. Christ should be the focus and center of the relationship.
➡️ Choose a partner who values their relationship with God as much as you do. If you want God to be central in your relationship, you should choose someone who is passionate about following God.
Before you start dating anyone, pray that God will help you find the right person. Don’t just get swept up in your emotions or physical attraction
While it’s possible to continue to serve God if you’re dating a nonbeliever, it will be difficult to truly make God the center of your relationship
(Amos 3:3)
➡️ Date with Purpose, date with the intention of getting married. Casual dating might be popular in the modern world, but if you’re trying to serve God, you should be looking for the partner God has chosen as your spouse. Only date someone if you see them as a potential life-long partner. That doesn’t mean that you have to marry the first person you date, of course, but do spend your time critically evaluating whether they’d be a good fit for you.
➡️ Avoid becoming physically intimate before marriage. When you’re dating someone you’re attracted to, it can be hard to resist the temptation to be close to them physically. However, God instructs His us to wait until marriage to be physically intimate together. To help keep yourselves pure, set boundaries that you both feel are safe, honorable, and respectable.
Try to avoid innocent-seeming activities that might tempt you to have impure thoughts, like sitting on each other's laps or giving each other massages.
(1 Thessalonians 4:3, Hebrews 13:4)
➡️ Rely on God and each other when times are difficult. Inevitably in a relationship, you’ll have to face struggles together. These might be arguments because you don’t see eye-to-eye on things, or you might have to overcome hardships and grief together as a couple. No matter what comes your way, don't turn against each other. Trust that God will care for you, and work together to find God's solution to any problem.
Remember, if you and your partner get married, you’ll have to take on difficult situations together throughout your life. If you have a hard time working together when you’re dating, you may have a hard time being on the same page later on, as well.
